Looking for a unique lighthouse-collectible idea? Here are some great ideas!

Why is a lighthouse-collectible?

My interest in the collectible started after spending several years in the Merchant marine and sailing yachts around the world, and there is nothing quite so welcoming and comforting on a dark and stormy night as sighting and identifying a specific light house with it’s unique flashing code.

Lighthouse are like old friends to sailors. These days most are modern towers and unmanned with automatic operation. The light-house-collectible preserves some of that grand heritage

In daylight, most light houses are uniquely different and in many cases absolutely beautiful. The light-house recreates the architecture as the light towers are largely and uniquely different to each other as is the accommodation that housed the light house keeper and family.

It is not surprising that replicas become prized collectibles as they have, and many of these are beautiful art works in their own right. The lighthouses are hand sculpted, artistic and be authentic exact replicas of the real thing, some even have the lights flashing as well. Famous light houses that are recreated include the many beautiful Maine and Washington state lighthouses.

Who Makes Lighthouse-Collectibles

The Lefton company introduced the very first illuminated and authentic U.S. lighthouse-collectible replicas back in 1991. These are exact reproductions of actual light houses in the various coastal areas of the USA. They are made from ceramic and the beacon is fully illuminated.

Every purchase of one of these lighthouse replicas in the Historic American Lighthouse Collection, see a donation to the United States Lighthouse Society, which is a non-profit organization that restores and preserves these historical treasures. Lefton also make a mini collection crafted in cold cast porcelain.

The Spoontique company have the Guiding Lights lighthouse-collectibles collection which comprises some 170 authentic lighthouses. Spoontique also market a limited edition selection as well as lightships hand painted on cold cast resin.

Another well known replica maker is Cheryl Spencer Collin. She creates limited edition light houses that are hand painted on cold cast resin.

Other lighthouse-collectible makers also include Harbour Lights, Lenox and Hummell
